    Mary Doherty ~ PTA, LMT

Hi there! My name is Mary Doherty. I am a licensed massage therapist (LMT), as well as a physical therapist assistant (PTA), here in Connecticut. I am so excited to begin working along side Dr. Betsy at Ridgefield Sports Medicine. I am looking forward to being able to offer manual work including Swedish, deep tissue, and medical massage.

In middle and high school, I was dedicated to track and field as well as cross country. I completed 15 seasons in a row and competed in countless meets and invitationals. I decided I wanted a career in physical therapy to help others reach their physical and athletic goals.

I attended SUNY Canton and graduated as a PTA in 2007. For about seven years I worked in sub-acute and homecare settings honing my skills with the geriatric population. I focused on functional movement, use of assistive devices, gait and postural training, balance with neuromuscular reeducation, and strength and endurance work. Although I helped so many reach their functional goals after surgeries and disease, I found that I lacked confidence in my manual skills. I decided to head back to school and become a Licensed Massage Therapist.

I attended the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy (CCMT), out of the Westport campus, and graduated in 2014. I learned from excellent practicing massage therapists and received so much insight into many forms of manual work. I gained a greater understanding and confidence for healing with my hands. I was now able to bring massage together with my career in physical therapy.

For six years I worked in outpatient physical therapy practices seeing patients ranging from stroke survivors to chronic migraine sufferers. I applied my skills in manual work to decrease patients’ pain and improve muscle movement for strength and balance work. Today, I continue to work part time as a physical therapist assistant in Danbury, CT.

I am so pleased to be available to the clients here at RSM. I am looking forward to being able to help you reach your goals, be it stress relief or getting rid of that pesky knot. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
